Dental Clinics
The Main Dental Clinic at USNH Yokosuka serves several shore commands and most of the dental specialists are located here. Specialties include endodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, oral surgery, orofacial pain, orthodontics, and prosthodontics.
We provide a wide range of dental services, albeit with some limitations. Prosthodontics and orthodontics are limited in availability. Prosthodontics is limited by the demand created by active duty personnel. Implant dentistry is limited to active duty only. Active Duty and Command Sponsored Family Members who arrive on station with an appropriate treatment plan and transfer records from a U.S. orthodontist and who have orthodontic treatment initiated prior to receipt of orders to Yokosuka, are eligible for continuation of care. These patients must complete the orthodontic selection board process once they arrive on station prior to being fully accepted as transfer patients. Patients who have braces placed after receiving orders to Yokosuka are not eligible for continuation of treatment. New patients are accepted based on the severity of the case and time left on board, generally 24 months or more for comprehensive orthodontics.
Highest priority for treatment is given to active duty, followed by family members of active duty personnel. Retirees, DOD civilians, and their family members are seen on a space available basis. Federal law makes DOD civilians ineligible for prosthodontics and orthodontics, even if treatment was started prior to receipt of their job assignment. A fee for service, as determined by the DOD, is charged for all dental work and services rendered to DOD civilians. Space availability is extremely limited for DOD civilians and family. Dental Emergencies during business hours will be handled via sick call. All after-hour emergencies are handled by the emergency department. All beneficiaries will be seen for a dental emergency.
