Health Care Services, Access and Resources

The following concerns were expressed by community members related to health care services, access and resources.

Mental Health Resources: On and Off Base

Download the Fleet Activities Yokosuka Mental Health Resource Guide, a comprehensive list of mental health resources and assistance navigating our local health care system. This resource includes information for beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries alike. Individual commands are encouraged to customize and distribute the guide to their personnel.

Filling Prescription for Drugs Banned in Japan

Our pharmacy stocks and dispenses prescriptions available on the TRICARE formulary and subject to availability. Patients are advised to keep less than a 30-day supply of their prescription on hand and keep at their place of residence when possible. It’s recommended to keep prescriptions in the original container that displays the original prescription label.

Immunization Clinic Walk-in Hours

Immunizations are now open to space-available personnel and can be made by calling the appointment line (DSN 243-5352). This new option is in addition to the all-hands walk-in hours, Monday - Friday, 8 to 10 p.m.

Lactation Resources

Please visit the Lactation Services page for a comprehensive list of lactation resources provided by Naval Hospital Yokosuka and other CFAY affiliated organizations such as the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society and Fleet & Family Services Center. To schedule an appointment with a lactation consultant or get more information on group classes, call the Pediatrics Clinic at DSN 243-5505. Lactation is also thoroughly reviewed during the hospital’s New OB Orientation and Centering Pregnancy classes for expecting parents. To register for these classes please call the OBGYN Clinic at DSN 243-8747.

Infant Feeding and Resources in Emergencies

Parents are encouraged to consider how they will feed their infant in the case of an emergency or natural disaster when preparing their emergency kits. This includes considerations for stocking items such as clean, bottled water and formula supplies. We encourage families to visit the CDC website to learn more.

Resources Available for Weight and Nutrition Management in Pregnancy

Like stateside military hospitals and clinics, we rely on the local system for emergencies which we cannot fully support. Naval Hospital Yokosuka relies on the Japanese medical system which is unable to care for pregnant patients with increased BMI due to differences in equipment. However, there are a variety of options offered by the hospital to support the health of expecting moms during their pregnancy journey. Our dieticians offer individual, patient-specific medical nutrition therapy (with referral from PCM or OBGYN) and teach a nutrition course during the Centering Pregnancy program. Moms are encouraged to reach out to the OBGYN clinic if they are interested in more formalized weight and nutrition management classes, as our departments have expressed willingness to host additional classes/support groups if significant community interest is expressed.  Visit our Labor & Delivery page to learn more.

Scheduling Routine Mammograms

Patients can schedule a routine Screening Mammogram by visiting the Radiology department in person or by calling DSN 243-5534 directly (no referral required).
For patients who do not have an established primary care provider (space-a personnel), their results and follow-up recommendations will be sent by mail within seven days of the screening. If the patient has an established PCM, the results and follow-up recommendations will be sent to their primary care provider and be accessible to the patient in the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal.

Informed and Implied Consent During Sensitive OBGYN procedures

Informed and implied consent policies were added to the OB orientation packet for expecting parents and is now included in the curriculum of our hospital’s Labor & You classes. We continue to encourage patients to speak up regarding their concerns at every point of their care journey.
Additionally, please see Patient Rights & Responsibilities for more information.

Why am I not able to schedule my child’s dental appointment?

To make an appointment, please call the Dental Clinic at DSN 243-8808 or visit us in-person on the 2nd floor of the hospital. Appointment availability varies.
Due to staffing, we can’t project appointment availability or schedule appointments sooner than 28 days out. If your child is enrolled in the TRICARE Dental Program and are interested in seeking off-base dental services, visit the TDP website to search for a network provider.
